Brindabella Airlines (Canberra) has suspended all flights indefinitely after the company was placed into receivership on Sunday, December 15. The move comes after Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) grounded the airline's fleet for a second time citing incomplete maintenance. David Winterbottom and Sebastian Hams of KordaMentha insolvency and restructuring practitioners have now been appointed Receivers and Managers of the Canberra-based airline and have advised that Brindabella would no longer be accepting bookings. Mr Winterbottom indicated the Receivers would be calling for immediate expressions of interest in the sale of the business, however the business would not continue to operate whilst the sale process is conducted. Mr Winterbottom said: "It is too early to predict the ultimate future of Brindabella or to be precise about the reasons for the Group’s problems, however the competitive nature of the airline industry, regulatory and maintenance issues and the financial pressures this would have placed on the airline would certainly be significant factors." Codeshare-partner Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) had commenced providing additional services on some of Brindabella’s usual routes which included Sydney Kingsford Smith, Cobar, Moree, Mudgee, Narrabri, Newcastle Williamtown, Orange, NS, Tamworth, and Brisbane International.
